Desde a entrada em vigor, a 9 de Julho, do cessar-fogo negociado na Jordânia com os EUA e a Rússia, o grau das hostilidades abrandou, com o Estado Islâmico a sofrer pesadas derrotas. Em várias regiões da Síria, já se negoceia a reconstrução, falando-se cada vez mais no aproximar do fim do conflito com a manutenção de Assad no poder.
